New York State Licensing Courses in Home Inspection
NYS Continuing Education Course in Home Inspection for Real Estate
This Site will explain the 2 main ways of entering the field of Home Inspection. One method is to become a Licensed Home Inspector. This requires 100 Hours Of Education, 40 Hours of Supervised Inspections and a NYS Licensing Test. A different, a equally effective way is the Non-License Track. This method requires you work for a Licensed Home Inspector. We are explaining both methods, since not everyone plans on opening their own firm. There is a population of potential Inspectors who are satisfied working for a firm, rather than soliciting their own work.
If you are considering Home Inspecting as a Career, you can Take the Home Inspection Program which is approved for Continuing Education Real Estate Credit. It will give you an understanding of this field, and give you the needed education to gain entry into the field, working for a Licensed Home Inspection firm. If you then decide to become Licensed, you will be required to attend the 100 Hour License Education Program, followed by 40 hours of supervised Home Inspections. You can decide for yourself if you plan to work for a Firm or your goals are to open your own firm, and even employ others. Your level of determination will decide which courses are recommended and which are mandatory for licensing.
Click on the ICON to the right above if you wish to consider the field of Home Inspecting, but you are not sure if you desire to become Licensed. This would include working for a firm part-time, under the direction of a Licensed Home Inspector, an Engineer or an Architect. You must at minimum take an Introductory course or work as an intern in an effort to gain knowledge in this exciting field. We offer this program as a 3.5 day program, and we include all books for this introduction program. Real Estate Salespersons and Brokers receive the requisite continuing education credit mandated each 2 period. This course is NYS, Dept. of State Approved for Continuing Education. Those who complete this program can enter the field and join multiple National Home Inspection Firm for a discount rate: The organizations include NACHI (National Assoc. of Certified Home Inspectors); ACI (Assoc. of Construction Inspectors) and HIF (Housing Inspection Foundation)
Click on the ICON to the right if you plan on becoming Licensed as a Home Inspector. This requires 100 Hours of Approved Licensing Education and 40 Hours of Supervised Home Inspection Training. Some consider Licensing as their first step, others take this program, only after they are positive this is a career path. That is why the ICON above and the Introductory CE course is the first choice for some. This program consists of 4 courses, each 25 hour followed by a Final Exam. Once the initial program is completed. you must either work for a firm or sign up for the 40 hour Supervised Home Inspection Program (Module 5) as mandated by NYS Guidelines. Entry to the field of Home Inspecting can be accomplished either by this method, or the method listed above. The choice is yours. Those who complete this program can enter the field and join multiple National Home Inspection Firm for a discount rate: The organizations include NACHI (National Assoc. of Certified Home Inspectors); ACI (Assoc. of Construction Inspectors) and HIF (Housing Inspection Foundation)
